Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, contact us — we usually respond same business day.

How does getting an offer work?

Three steps:

  1. Tell us about your item. Photos + a short description on Get an offer.
  2. Get a conditional offer same business day. We email a price range good for 72 hours.
  3. Bring the item and your ID to the shop to complete the transaction. Final price depends on a hands-on inspection.
What forms of ID do you accept?

North Carolina law requires a current, government-issued photo ID for any pawn or buy transaction (NCGS § 91A). We accept:

  • Driver's license (any U.S. state)
  • State-issued ID card
  • Military ID
  • U.S. passport (state-issued ID also helpful for address)

We don't accept expired IDs, photos of IDs, or ID numbers without the physical card.

How is a pawn loan different from selling?

Pawn loan: you leave the item with us as collateral. We hand you cash. You have 30 days(renewable monthly) to pay back the loan plus the state- regulated service fee. When you redeem, you take your item home. Total cost is set by NC law (NCGS § 91A-7).

Sell (buy) transaction: we buy the item outright. You hand us the item, we hand you cash, and the transaction is final once the police-hold period ends (10 days in NC). No interest, no service fee — just the price.

Pawn typically pays less per dollar than selling, but you get the item back. Selling pays more but the item is gone.

How long do I have to redeem a pawn?

30 days minimum, with the option to renew for additional 30-day periods by paying that period's fees. Most loans get redeemed in 30–90 days.

If you go past the redemption window without paying or renewing, the item forfeits and becomes ours to sell. NC law also requires a Right-to-Cure notice (NCGS § 25-209) before any forfeit — you'll get written notice with a chance to make it right.

Are your prices fair?

Our offers are based on three checks: (1) what the item is actually selling for online today, (2) condition / completeness / accessories, and (3) what we can resell it for in our local market.

For pawn loans, NC law caps the service fee at a sliding scale by loan amount; we honor that cap. We'll show you the math at the counter.

What kinds of items do you take?

Most things with resale value:

  • Jewelry and gold (chains, rings, bracelets — broken is fine for scrap)
  • Watches
  • Electronics (laptops, phones, gaming consoles, TVs)
  • Power tools
  • Musical instruments
  • Coins and bullion

We don't buy or pawn firearms (unless you're a licensed FFL bringing them through a federal transfer), stolen property, items without proof of ownership, vehicles, large appliances, or anything we can't resell locally. When in doubt — text us a photo first.

What about my privacy and ID data?

We store the minimum needed to comply with state pawnbroker law (NCGS § 91A) and federal regulations (Form 8300 for large cash transactions, OFAC sanctions screening). All PII is encrypted at rest. Online payments are processed by PayPal; we never see or store card numbers.

Full details in our Privacy Policy and the GLBA notice (which covers your rights as a customer of a financial-services shop).

Do you ship items, or do I have to come in?

For now, all transactions happen at our Tarboro shop — 2204 North Main St, Tarboro, NC. We don't ship loans or items by mail; that's a state-by-state regulatory patchwork we haven't set up to handle yet.

That said, a same-day offer plus a 72-hour window means you can drive over from Rocky Mount, Greenville, or Williamston knowing what to expect when you walk in.

How long does the offer last?

72 hours from when we send it. If item value moves (gold spot price, demand for that gaming console, etc.) the offer can change. Bring it in within 72 hours and the emailed price holds barring undisclosed condition issues.

I'm not from NC. Can I still get an offer?

We currently only serve North Carolina residents (the offer form requires an NC ZIP). State pawnbroker law varies and we're licensed for NC. If you're in NC border counties (VA, SC, TN), give us a call — depending on the item we may be able to work something out in person.
